This painting, though somewhat wanting, reflects a time and place of endearment to descendents of Johann and Freni (Krehbiel) Goering.
It is evident in the recently published family record, spanning the years 1850 to 1962, that all immediate members of the Johann Goering family except Anna, were married and established their own homes while living at this homesite. Aunt Anna, the oldest daughter was married in 1890 about 2 years preceding the acquisition of this land. My father, John B., the youngest member was three years old when the family moved from the adjoining West section to this property in 1892.
The items in this painting show the advancements made on this farm to 1936. At that time my father found it necessary to sell this farm to facilitate the purchase of a dairy farm at Canton, Kansas. He had maintained and developed this farm from 1912, the year when the Grandparents build a retirement home 1/4 mile west of this site – near a one-room school house which appropriately was named “Peaceful”.
