Place/Date: The date was July 30 and 31, 1994 and the place was rural Dayton, Virginia at Stoney Point (Home of Jim and Ida), at Hone quarry, and at Berea Christian School.
Committee: Jim and Ida, their children/spouses, and their grandchildren.
Activity: Friday evening, Jim and Ida hosted a supper for those already in the area. The following signed the guest book as having sat around a biggggg table: Paula and Sarah Faulkner, Theresa Freeman, Leonard and Delores Goering, Russell Goering family, Jessica Tortorice, Joan and Tony Epp, Harry and Rosie Goering, Walter and Frieda Regier, Art and Rosie Goering, Martha Sundgren, Elva Goering, Dan and Grace Goering, Ted Goering and Michael Boehm, Fred and Regina Knicely.
Saturday a.m. we had a trip to Hone Quarry by horse-drawn wagon and automobiles. For lunch we had a hot dog and home made ice cream meal. In the afternoon we played some games, sat around in the heavenly shade and visited, and most of the children went wading in the stream and small body of water and surprise! got very wet.
Saturday supper was a chicken barbeque prepared by Jim A. H. and David Goering. We also had some baked beans but some of the beans spilled in a trunk enroute to Reddish Knob to view West Virginia. (Some hiked up to Lover’s Leap near the picnic grounds). All the children and their spouses prepared delicious food to add to the chicken and beans.
Sunday morning we met in air conditioned comfort at Berea Christian School for the day. Breakfast was served by Jim and Ida and children. We had congregational singing. Danny Goering had a morning sermon. Lori (Danny) led in a children’s hymn. The Virginia Goerings sang several song from Harmonia Sacra (song book published by Joseph Funk in Singers Glen, VA.) A psalm was recited by memory by Jimmy (Jim and Bonnie) and Anthony and Reuben (Kathy and Steve). Families were introduced and pictures were taken. Pork barbecue was the Sunday main entree. There was a 50th wedding celebration for Dan and Grace. The afternoon had a lot of visiting and story sharing. In the evening there was more visitiation at Stony Point. Nights were spent in local motels and local homes.
Number attended: approximately 93
Business meeting: the next reunion is to be in Kansas in 1996. Those in charge are to be Leonard and Delores Goering, Rannie and Carol Goering, and Bernard and Evie Regier.
