Uncle Art’s numbering system

Uncle Art’s genealogy program assigned each family member a unique number.

As an example,
0 is Johann Goering, born April 7, 1850
0.0 is his wife Freni Krehbiel, born February 1851
If Johann had more than one spouse, the first spouse is .0, the second spouse is .01
1 is Anna Goering, the first child of Johann and Freni, born September 16, 1873
2 is Katharina Goering, the second child of Johann and Freni, born October 5, 1875
3 is Elisabeth, born February 13, 1877
4 is Maria, born June 24, 1879
5 is Freni, born September 21, 1881
6 is Benjamin B, born November 8, 1883
7 is Emilie, born May 14, 1887
8 is John B. Goering, born July 27, 1889 — and this is why all of our numbers start with 8
8.0 is Jessie Schrag
8.01 is Anna Schrag-Ratzleff

The sibling generation continues with numbers 1 through 9 and d through k. Elva is 81 and Harry is 8k. The step-siblings from the union with Anna Shrag-Ratzleff are numbered 8m through 8t.

Within each of the sibling’s family, the numbering coninues.
Art is 89
Rosie is 89.0
Rannie is 891
Carol is 891.0
Mark is 891.1
Liz is 891.2
Liz’s new husband is 891.20 and future chidren (no pressure!) will be 891.21, 891.22, and so on.

Steve is 892
Jana Lee is 893

Yes, letters after Uncle Art, and starting with D. I don’t know why d is first instead of a and I assume he switched to letters to keep the sort in order.
