Maria Krehbiel Krehbiel was born in 1866 and died in 1899. She married “Red Jake” Jacob P. Krehbiel on December 29, 1882.

“Red Jake” and his family were so poor when they emigrated that they stayed with an Amish group in Hopedale, IL to work. He traveled back and forth for 3 years, eventually homesteading land about 10 miles west of Moundridge. Maria and Red Jake had 8 children. The youngest, Lee, was born on February 10, 1899. Maria died 18 days later on February 28, 1899.

Red Jake married Elisabeth Wedel on September 6, 1900. Baby Lee eventually had 7 step-siblings.

”Krehbiel. – February 28th in the Hoffnungsfeld Eden church near Moundridge Kans., Maria Krehbiel, née Krehbiel, wife of Jakob P. Krehbiel, at the age of 32 years, 11 months and 3 days. The deceased was born in the Volhin Governorate, Gitomir County, Russia. She was baptized on October 30, 1880 to confess her faith, and married on December 29, 1883. She leaves behind a deeply saddened husband and 8 children who mourn her untimely death. At the funeral on March 2nd, Peter Krehbiel spoke in the house where she died about Ps. 37 and in the church about Luk. 18, 13. The Lord wants to comfort the bereaved in their sadness.”
